First Summertime LARP

Summertime LARP beings Thursday, June 2!

most Thursdays, June 2 to September 1, 2016
10:30 am – 1:30 pm (3 hours)

mostly at Tony Schmidt Regional Park

3500 Lake Johanna Blvd
Arden Hills, MN 55112

The plan is to mostly gather at Tony Schmidt Regional Park with occasional expeditions to the outer realms.

Live Action Role Playing! Also known as Grown Up Make Believe (GUMB). You create a character, make a costume and props if you desire, and then come in character to work cooperatively with the other LARPers to create a story and an immersive fictional world within the forests of Tony Schmidt.

Bring provisions (that is, a picnic lunch).

    • The story for this LARP is continually evolving and is written cooperatively by all players.
    • There is no group leader.
While the group may choose to follow someone for a particular campaign on a particular day, Emperors, Dictators, Generals, and CEOs and will be promptly overthrown!

Costumes are encouraged but optional.

    • This is a multiverse LARP — your character may come from any genre or era or story or your imagination.
      • Fantasy, steampunk, historical (historical realistic, historical supernatural, alternative history), modern, futuristic, post-apocalyptic, horror! Harry Potter, Doctor Who, Star Wars, Star Trek, The Lord of the Rings, Sherlock, Zelda, Avengers, Arthurian! It’s up to you.
    • This is an all-weather LARP taking place outside, so plan your outfit accordingly.
      • Addendum: The LARP will be cancelled for thunderstorms or other dangerous weather. Rain and wind are one thing. Lightening and downbursts are another!

This is also a judgement-free LARP. If someone makes a choice with which you disagree, whether it be what they’re saying, what they’re wearing, or what they’re doing, take it as an opportunity to practice generosity, kindness and understanding.

Summertime LARP Rules
    1. Safety first.
    2. Always be nice.
    3. Never say “No” to another person’s idea.
      • Unless agreeing would violate either or both of the first two rules.
    4. Those who wish to duel must do so in slow motion and tap lightly.
      • All parties must give consent to a duel prior to any combat.
      • Do not strike your opponent in the head, neck, or groin.
      • Do not stab or thrust at your opponent’s chest or abdomen.
      • Strike only hard enough for your opponent to know they have been hit.
      • No “Drum Rolling” or “Machine Gunning” — do not strike rapidly in succession and do not strike the same spot repeatedly.
      • All weapons should observe Summertime LARP Rule #1! If you fall on your sword, you want your sword to break, not you!

Join the Crafters’ Guild to make your own LARP-Safe props! Details pending, but the plan is to meet at 10am until we’re done on Wednesdays, June 15, July 20, and August 17 at a location in Northeast Minneapolis. The first project will be foamsmithing flatblade boffers.

Recommended for ages 10–14 years. Adult supervision is not provided.

Free to play; provisions, costuming and props costs are at your discretion.
